God looks down on Earth and is disgusted with what he sees his creation has become. He decides that humanity is a failed experiment, and he orders Earth and all of humanity destroyed. He will start again from scratch. Jesus, however, intervenes and requests one more opportunity to turn mankind around. He is given one year to see if he can make a significant difference. The Second Coming begins with Jesus (Jc to his friends) in an induced coma in a Manila hospital after having been hit by a bus, losing his memory in the process. The book follows the exploits of Jesus and his disciples as they seek to firstly recover his memory and then embarking on a mission of saving humanity from the brink. There is interwoven into the story a romance between Jesus (Jose Christian Castillo or Jc for short) and his number one Disciple Maria Lyn Manyanan (Ma for short).

This is not the first book I have read by this author, and as I quite enjoy his writing, I am certain it will not be the last. THE SECOND COMING by Grant Leishman is a truly enjoyable and fun read sure to make even God smile, were He to read it. That said, I am certain that Mr. Leishman certainly wrote his clever and light-hearted take on The Second Coming of Christ for us mere mortals.JC basically begins his second coming to earth with amnesia after being hit by a bus. Not the best circumstances to try to save humanity from ever-lasting destruction, especially when he has forgotten not only why he is on earth, but who he is…and that he only has a short time to accomplish his goal. His earthly friends (whom he has also forgotten) are completely loyal to him and do everything they can to help him remember, not only them, but also the plans he said he had for them to change the world. How this all plays out is not for me to tell, you must read the book, but it is well-worth the time.
I highly recommend this wonderful tale to all audiences. You needn’t be religious to enjoy this wonderful story.

The Second Coming Grant Leishman 9781635030037 Books Reviews
Okay, I had no idea what to expect when I started reading this book. What I loved most about it was the author's amazing ability to make it an enjoyable read for both Christians and non-Christians. As someone who often ponders "what if" questions relentlessly, I found this story to be eye-opening read, both deep and light at times. I was able to sit back and enjoy the story, but at the same time there were so many underlying themes and question points -- which I LOVED!! There were quite a few moments when I literally laughed out loud. It's an eccentric, imaginative tale about what would happen if Jesus Christ returned in modern times to save the world from itself all over again. The characters are so well-developed and the scenes so descriptive, that I couldn't help being impressed with the author's writing style. And how to classify this book? Wow, I have no idea. It's humor, adventure, and all around off-the-wall speculative fiction crammed into one. Kudos to the author!! This is such a creative book and I'd read it again.
This is a light-hearted, tongue-in-cheek, sometimes funny, often humorous ... vernacular of the streets ... approach to the return of JC to save humanity from his father, God, who is angry with his creation - again. The author places JC in the Philippines, which was unique. I learned quite a bit about the culture in the Philippines reading this. The book never devolves into religious tripe or gets preachy. The characters are real and human and talk like any of us, including JC. The storytelling focuses on a small group of sincere believers willing to step out on faith and change the world for the better. I was "tempted" to give the book only three stars because I personally disagree with the premise of the second coming story presented here but I didn't want my personal bias to play a part in my evaluation so I tried to stay objective. From a purely literary point of view, (I could have done with a few less - dashes - in the book), it is a fun and fanciful story with some interesting twists that keeps you turning pages, almost like watching the New Testament replay itself out in modern times.
This story is about what the title claims - Jesus’s second coming, but, as the cover indicates, with a more light-hearted approach. Unlike the first coming, this one occurs in the modern times in The Philippines and with fewer disciples. Regardless, the themes still remain of universal love and compassion amid the chaos of what is the human race. That said, I have to admit this story was a surprise—it isn’t preachy, and the modern situations make it believable and relevant for our times. The characters are likeable, some even loveable, and I came away thinking that something like this could really happen. I enjoyed the author’s sense of humor that showed throughout this story in both the characters and in their lives, which, I believe lightened the mood around the more serious aspects. This is definitely a classic story with a different spin, and you don’t need to be religious to like this one. The Second Coming is a humorous, yet thought-provoking, five-star read!
God is serious this time. The human race is a disaster. Our only hope . . . Jesus! In “The Second Coming” by Grant Leishman we are treaded to a fresh, humorous, quirky and thought provoking look at the world and the effort to save us from our selves. The author has mastered the art of subtle humor and found that magic place where the reader is both entertained and given a new way to see something – we are made to ponder much. This quote (attributed to God) not only gives you a sense of the story, but of the writer
"I think it's time to admit that humanity is a failed experiment - that it didn't work." -God.
And then one of the characters explains "God was totally adamant - he really wanted us to destroy earth - and end humanity. He wanted to start again from scratch - and try something else."
This is a crazy, fun book that you won’t want to stop reading. Highly recommended. Five stars.
At first glance at the title, it is safe to assume that “The Second Coming” is a serious, religion-related book. However, the comic book cover made me think otherwise. I was intrigued even before reading it.
Yes, it is a story about the second coming of JC (Jesus Christ). He comes as a Filipino, the same as his disciples. The entire occurrence is in the Philippines, which creates an interesting setup. Mr. Leishman has an explanation about the reason for the location that is logical and convincing. The author skillfully plots the story line with the twists and turns until the end. Readers may find some kinship with New Testament. However, the greater degree of humanization of the main character, Jesus Christ, makes the story refreshing.
It was ingenious how the author blends the profound messages and philosophical depiction of humanity into a light-hearted read. It is an enjoyable read indeed as the cover suggested.
